Political decision-makers and parliamentarians commit to better sex education for young people!

2025-02-06

The Association Togolaise pour le Bien-être Familial (ATBEF), with support from IPPF and funding from the European Union, organized an orientation workshop for policymakers and parliamentarians on comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at the AMOUKADI Hotel in Adétikopé. The workshop is part of the “Ado Avance Ensemble” sub-regional project, which aims to improve access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information and services for vulnerable adolescents, particularly out-of-school girls.

The event highlighted the need for collaboration between political players to strengthen public and private health systems and promote a favorable environment for young people's SRH. Discussions focused on the adoption of laws and policies guaranteeing better access to SRH information and services, thus contributing to the development of adolescents.
The workshop was also a unique opportunity to engage political decision-makers and parliamentarians in favor of a more inclusive legislative framework adapted to the needs of young people. Concrete strategies were envisaged to strengthen sex education and promote access to essential services such as contraception and safe abortion.
This workshop represents a key step towards the recognition and implementation of enlightened public policies, guaranteeing adolescents their fundamental right to sexual and reproductive health that is fulfilled and free from discrimination.
