Learning visit to the Kara region
From August 23 to 26, 2023 , a learning visit took place in the Kara region (KARA-NADOBA-KETAO), bringing together Togo's traditional chiefs, priests and priestesses, on local teenage pregnancy prevention schemes and the positive transformation of community rites and initiations.
This activity aims to strengthen the commitment of priests and traditional chiefs to the protection and sexual education of young people and teenagers, by protecting them from sexual violence and early pregnancy, and by taking into account the positive transformation of rites and initiations.
During these days, the initiating priests from Nadoba shared with participants the mechanism that led to the transformation of initiation rites in the locality, as well as the commitment of the traditional chieftaincy of Ketao, which led to zero pregnancies within the CEG KETAO at the end of Phase 1 of the Project for the Prevention of Early Pregnancy in Schools in Togo.
On the strength of these shared experiences, each participant left with a commitment to do better in his or her own environment, in order to put in place in their respective localities and areas, community and ritual mechanisms to prevent sexual violence and teenage pregnancy in the country.
ATBEF, for a better life!
