Strengthening the Integration of SRH Products into the Essential Medicines List: A Step Forward for Reproductive Health Equity
On July 28 and 29, 2025, a national workshop brought together in Lomé around thirty
senior officials from the Ministry of Health, technical departments, and reproductive
health experts to discuss improving the integration of sexual and reproductive health
(SRH) products, including family planning (FP), into the National Essential Medicines
List (NEML). While some SRH products are already included, several needs remain
unmet, hindering equitable access to health services.
Organized with the support of ATBEF, the workshop helped identify key barriers to
fuller and more sustainable integration, such as the lack of robust data, the absence
of a dedicated budget line, and delays in the review process. Concrete
recommendations were formulated, including the creation of a multisectoral technical
working group and the development of an inclusive roadmap.
This initiative aligns with Togo’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3, and to ensure that all individuals—especially the
most vulnerable—have access to quality reproductive health products.
