Community and Religious Leaders of Doufelgou Unite for SRHR and the Fight Against Unsafe Abortions
On August 18 and 19, 2025, in Niamtougou, the Togolese Association for Family Welfare (ATBEF) organized a training workshop for 30 traditional chiefs, religious and community leaders, including six women.
The workshop aimed to clarify core values and promote positive narratives on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), highlighting the importance of safe abortion.
At the end of the discussions, participants committed to raising awareness within their communities in order to reduce recourse to unsafe abortions. These commitments were formalized through the signing of community charters, solemnly endorsed by 15 Canton Chiefs, to strengthen the protection of young girls and promote SRHR.
This initiative reaffirms the role of local authorities as pillars of social change and community health in the Doufelgou prefecture.
It is part of the EmpowHer project.
ATBEF, for a better life !
